Ponytail Stunt Death: Indian Daredevil Dies 600-Feet Over Water

Pony Tail Death Stunt

Ponytail Stunt Death: Renowned Indian stunt man Sailendra Nath Roy, died Sunday during what was supposed to be his final public stunt display.

Roth had garnered a name for himself in 2011 after snagging a Guinness Record for traveling the longest distance on zip line attached by his hair. It was a unique, but dangerous talent.

On Sunday, Roth had organized an exhibition of his talent in West Bengal, India. The finale of the event was to be Roth repeating his Guinness Record stunt, but this time he would be traveling 600 feet over the Teesta River. Roth’s wife reports that she was very apprehensive about her husband performing this stunt, and that he assured her he would perform no more stunts after Sunday.

Unfortunately, Roth could not foretell just how true that would be. As he approached the midway point on the zip line, the pony tail became entangled in the wheeler of the zip line.

At that distance and altitude Roth could not communicate to anyone what the trouble was. Witnesses report that he began to struggle but many were unsure whether or not this was part of the display. After struggling for thirty minutes, Roth became still. Fifteen minutes later he was finally removed from the zip line.

“He was desperately trying to move forward. He was trying to scream out some instruction. But no one could follow what he was saying. After struggling for 30 minutes he became still,” said Balai Sutradhar, a photographer covering the event, told The Independent.

According to the Independent, Roth died of a massive heart attack.

Tragically, his wife had constantly urged him to stop doing the dangerous stunts. An anonymous friend said Roy convinced his wife that Sunday’s stunt over the Teesta River was to be his last.

“His wife used to urge him to quit doing dangerous stunts. Mr Roy convinced her that crossing the Teesta river would be his last. Unfortunately, that became his last stunt,” said a friend who wished to remain anonymous.

According to the BBC, he was wearing a life jacket, but there were no doctors or emergency services on the spot.

Police said that Mr Roy had not got permission to do the stunt.

In 2007, Mr Roy, his ponytail tied to a rope, flew from one building to another in front of television cameras.
