911 Bigfoot Call
Tuesday May 14, 2013 Big Foot spotted in Somerset county, Paint township, Altoona Pennsylvania by Turkey Hunter.
Rumors of the event spread like wildfire through the community and online forums when the misinterpreted dispatch call became known as ” Big Foot shot down by local hunter”.
The Altoona Police Department received an interesting, but oddly enough not unusual, call from dispatch.
Dispatch reported a man had contacted the game commission with a lack of a response and then proceeded to call 911 to claim he had spotted a big foot and had evidence. He then asked for an officer to come out to his place of residence to review it. Contrary to the officer’s belief that this case was false, he along with Chief of police Rick Stiles set out to view the “Big foot”, and its evidence.
With the assistance of a Pennsylvania Big Foot Society representative, the sighting was proven to be false reported WeAreCentralPA.com.
“A bear can’t go down a steep bank on all twos,” he told the website. “This is Bigfoot.”
He added that he also apparently heard a noise from the bipedal creature.
“The voice is so deep,” he said. “I’ve heard bass singers on television and they can’t even come close to the bass sound it made to me.”
Upon arrival at John Winesickle’s Residence, the officers concluded the tracks were that of a mother bear, when Winesickle walked them to the location where “Big Foot” was allegedly spotted.
Here’s a partial transcript of the police recording courtesy of Discover News:
Person 1: “[an individual] called 911 advising that he contacted the Game Commission to call him back; wants a police officer to come to his residence. Apparently he has proof there of Bigfoot.”
Officer: “Bigfoot, right?”
Person 1: “That’s affirmative, he has evidence, uh … proving Bigfoot. He would like a police officer to come there.”
Officer: “Apparently there’s a large amount of smoke in that area…”
Eric Altman, President of Pennsylvania Big Foot Society states “It was all blown out of proportion”, although some conspiracy therapist may state otherwise.
“It was typical of Bigfoot rumors – bits and pieces but no real sources,” Sharon Hill told Discovery News. “Speculation then went crazy within hours thanks to the Bigfoot online community. This is absolutely the worst way to get information.”
Many have sought evidence that Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, exists. However, there is still no hard evidence that the creature walks the woodlands where believers say they have been spotted.
Around the world there have been reports of a large, hairy creature living in woodlands, hiding from civilization. There have been a couple of videos and foot castings that many accept as proof but the scientific community denounce. They believe they are frauds and that the “evidence” is fake.
In 2012, a Texas veterinarian made national news claiming that genetic testing confirmed that not only is the legendary Bigfoot real, but is in fact a human relative that arose some 15,000 years ago.
The study, by Melba S. Ketchum, suggested such cryptids had sex with modern human females that resulted in hairy hominin hybrids: “Our data indicate that the North American Sasquatch is a hybrid species, the result of males of an unknown hominin species crossing with female Homo sapiens,” Ketchum said in a statement. The scientific community was rightly skeptical, partly because Ketchum’s research — which spanned five years — had not appeared in any peer-reviewed scientific journal.
It would be a huge story if all the work done by Ketchum and her team leads to scientific confirmation of the reality of Sasquatch, but as the Huffington Post points out, things aren’t looking good for the researchers.
