Mourners in Zimbabwe Shocked When Dead Man Wakes Up
Mourners surrounding the coffin of Brighton Dama Zanthe in Zimbabwe got the shock of their lives when the supposedly dead 34-year old man suddenly sat bolt upright.
One of the mourners at his funeral reported that while waiting in line to pay his last respects, he thought it was his imagination playing tricks when he began to see the dead man start to move his legs. But when Zanthe sat up in his coffin, there was no doubt that he had been prematurely declared dead.
“I was the first to notice Mr. Zanthe’s moving legs as I was in the queue to view his body. At first I could not believe my eyes but later realized that there was indeed some movements on the body as other mourners retreated in disbelief,” Lot Gaka, one of the mourners and Zanthe’s employer, told The Herald.
Zanthe was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention rather than the funeral home which was going to prepare his body for burial.
His condition was so weak that he remained on life support systems for 48 hours before medical officials determined that he could be released to head home rather than to the local cemetery.
“It’s really a miracle and most people are still in disbelief. Even officials from Nyaradzo Funeral Services who made some follow-up could not believe our story,” said a witness only identified as Danny.
In an interview with the Herald, Mr Zanthe said he was still failing to recollect what transpired to him.
“This issue can be best told by people who came to my house to attend my funeral.
I don’t know what happened and I only remember being on a life support system in hospital. Everything is history to me. What I can only confirm is that people gathered at my house to mourn but I was given another chance and I am alive. I feel okay now,” he said.
Although it is not a common occurrence, there have been numerous reports of individuals who were declared deceased and placed in a coffin, only to have them mysteriously resurrect themselves, fortunately before the coffin is either placed into the ground for a burial or burned at high temperatures for a cremation, reports the Huff Post.
In 2012, a Zimbabwe woman, suspected of being possessed, was rushed to a hospital after she stabbed herself and was allegedly declared dead, the Chronicle reports. However, she did not stay “dead” for long, as she “rose” shortly after.
